I belong to "The Quilt Show" website and decided at the last minute to enter a tablerunner contest they were holding. The decision was made only 4 days before the contest was over!!! I figured I could finish a tablerunner in 4 days, since 2 of them were weekend days. As is often the case - life conspired to thwart my ambition - Chuck announced, that same day when he came home from work, that we were going to Indianapolis on Saturday to an RV show. Gasp! I hustled and made up a lot of the flower petals ahead of time to hand applique in the car, on the highway. I almost finished attaching all the petals while in the car. and managed to finish the tablerunner by 9:15 Sunday night. I've taken my pictures this morning (March 1, the deadline) and am in the process of entering my project in the contest. Here are the pictures of Garden Stars:
this is a closeup of one end of the quilt. The Stars are paper pieced using exclusively batiks. I hand appliqued the petals, having turned and starched the edges ahead of time, and machine appliqued the star with black thread. The petals are free motion quilted with a gorgeous variegated polyester thread from Signature.............................................................................................
This is a closeup of the center - which is a smaller version or the larger stars on the ends. The stems are a metallic green ribbon attached with black thread in a wavy line seam. The leaves were prepared the same way as the petals, but attached by machine rather than hand...................
The end of the tablerunner..................................................................
The entire 39x15 inches, which is so long I had to put it on the floor and stand on a chair to get the whole thing in the picture!
